At The Game Awards on December 12, 2025, Creative Assembly and SEGA officially announced Total War: Warhammer 40,000 โ the franchise's first-ever step into the 41st Millennium after 25 years of historical and fantasy settings. The reveal trailer starred Emmy-nominated actor David Harbour, a self-described 40k superfan, playing an as-yet-unrevealed character. Set during the Era Indomitus, the game blends Total War's signature turn-based strategy and real-time battles with galactic-scale planetary conquest and fleet management. Four factions are confirmed for launch โ Space Marines, Astra Militarum, Orks, and Aeldari โ each built around distinct, lore-inspired mechanics and war machines, with players able to personalize their forces down to warband names, colours, banners, and wargear. Creative Assembly has confirmed there will be no pre-order DLC, though a release date, platform specs, and pre-order details are still to come.

Creative Assembly has confirmed that Lords of the End Times, the next expansion for Total War: Warhammer III, will launch on September 24, 2026. Billed by the studio as the largest DLC in the ten-year history of the series, it brings four new Legendary Lords into the Immortal Empires campaign, alongside a substantial free update arriving the same day.
Four Legendary Lords, One Apocalypse
The paid expansion centers on a quartet of characters drawn from the tabletop's infamous End Times storyline, each tied to a different faction:
- Nagash, Supreme Lord of the Undead โ the series' first Legendary Lord for the newly playable Undead Legions, hunting his lost magical tomes on a quest for godhood.
- The Glottkin โ leading Warriors of Chaos, spreading corruption and pestilence across the map.
- Grey Seer Thanquol โ the Skaven's scheming figurehead, orchestrating plots through new Masterplan mechanics.
- Boris Todbringer โ commanding the Empire, rekindling the Flame of Ulric in the fight to survive.
Each Lord arrives with unique campaign mechanics, new units, and new endgame scenarios. Standout additions include Verminlords for the Skaven and the Celestial Hurricanum for the Empire, both tied to the full bundle rather than individual Lord packs.
A Free Update Just as Big
Alongside the paid content, a free update adds a fifth Legendary Lord at no cost: Neferata, the Vampire Queen, accompanied by a full rework of the Vampire Counts faction. Archaon the Everchosen also receives an overhaul with expanded campaign mechanics. Three new endgame crises โ Chaos Invasion, Vermintide, and Nagash Rises โ will be available across the game regardless of which Lords players own.
No Base Game Required
Perhaps the most notable change isn't a Lord or a unit at all โ it's the access model. For the first time in the series, purchasing any piece of Lords of the End Times (a single Legendary Lord or the full bundle) grants immediate access to the Immortal Empires campaign, with no purchase of the base Total War: Warhammer III game required.
Pricing and Availability
Lords of the End Times can be purchased as individual Legendary Lord packs, one per faction, or as the full bundle, which includes all four Lords at a discount versus buying separately. Pre-orders are live now ahead of the September 24 release.
Whether you're drawn in by Nagash's march toward godhood or just want a way into Immortal Empires without the base game, the End Times are almost here.
